blast from the past

I used to love these as a kid: jelly sandals.
At first I didn’t really know what to think when two of my currently most important style influences were wearing them (Ivania from Love Aesthetics paired them with ankle cuffs and the girls from Helen Glory wear their Juju’s with socks), but then I figured why not.. I love transparent things, rubber is such a cool material, as I recall they’re really cheap and you can wear them on the beach. I’m going to give them a try even though I’m pretty sure they will polarize. What do you guys think?

DIY: dipped in bleach

Dries van Noten S/S 2011

Something I’ve been wanting to do for a while now is to bleach a pair of jeans in order to achieve an ombre look. I used DanKlorix as bleach – no need to mix it with water, since there is not much chlorine in it, so it can’t damage the fabric – and left the jeans hanging in it for about one hour in order to really get all the color out. And since it was so easy I did the same to a pair of shorts while I was at it.

new in

I found the most perfect little blouse in Antwerp. Spring has taken a break these days but as soon as it’s back I look forward to wearing my latest acquisition. I got it at New Look for 30€.

#6

Last sunday I had a successful day at the flea market where I sold a bunch of my stuff. The other girls there were selling quite a few goodies, for instance a two toned scarf from weekday, which I couldn’t resist.

What a beautiful day that was.
From head to toe: Hat from H&M, Weekday scarf, blazer and top both from Zara, Necklace from Fashionology, metallic satchel from ASOS, cheap monday jeans and glittery lace-up shoes from 3suisses.

And by the way, I’m glad to announce my first collaboration with Replay and Fashiolista. I’ll tell you all about it next week..

let’s pretend we’re surfing

This season is highly influenced by sports wear. And what better sport to draw inspiration from for a summer wardrobe than surfing? We saw how Givenchy interpreted the surfer for their S/S ’12 collection – shark tooth necklaces, shark skin for leather, underwater colors, a cool attitude. All in all monochrome outfits which looked amazing. But I’m also loving all the fun tropical prints that are popping up here and there (ASOS for instance, they call it the Waikiki Trend) and using neoprene for skirts instead of wet suits is brilliant.
Who doesn’t admire surfers? They seem to have no care in the world, they’re adventurous and cool. Good if we city gals can at least look a bit more like them.
The picture was taken by Max Doyle and shows Catherine McNeil. You can find it in the April issue of Vogue Australia.

Haute Mess

This is the behind the scenes video of an editorial called “Haute Mess” for Vogue Italia (March 2012) featuring among others Abbey Lee Kershaw, Coco Rocha and some pretty outrageous styling. To me it looks like a post-apocalyptic setting. A deserted town in southern California where the models died and became fashion (and fast food?) addicted zombies. Mesmerizing.

torn

Ripped jeans. They come and they go and right now, probably thanks to the advertising by Columbine wearing this season’s Acne ripped denim, they’re definitely back.

The thing is (and this is no new thought) – why would anybody spend money on torn jeans? I am very much into the distressed look and it is the easiest thing to do yourself. Or at least that’s what I had heard. So, I tried it.

This is what you will need: A denim garment of your choice, a pair of scissors and a paper clip or needle.

What you need to do is cut out parallel slits. The space in between the slits will determine the size of the torn section.
Using your clip you can start undoing the grid of the fabric by pulling the white horizontal threads.
Then, you will remove the darker vertical threads and ta-da!

It’s so easy I did the same thing to a pair of shorts..

if only I could have

This is my wish list for this season. Not like it’s ever going to happen, but a girl can dream.

This is part of what I was wearing today. T-shirt with Aztec print from Motel, chunky knit cardigan from h&m, the belt was my moms but now it’s mine and the black jeans is from Lindex. Spring is finally here!!

dip it!

Ever since I saw Phillip Lim at his spring/summer 2012 show in his dip dyed pants I’ve been intrigued by the look. It just gives an outfit a very interesting new dimension. And now dip-dyed pieces are popping up everywhere..

But then this is the perfect trend for people like me who are into arts and crafts. I have already dip dyed a tank top and I bought bleach (2,50€ at any drug store) yesterday to dip a pair of denim shorts into. There’s really no excuse, if you buy dip dyed garments you’re lazy.

piece of cake.
