Favorite items of 2012

Favorite items 2012

It’s that time of the year, you start looking back at what has happened this year, in your own life, in the world, personal achievements and wether last year’s new year’s resolutions were put into practice or need to be on the list again for 2013. My 2012 was definitely life changing. I went from giving up my studies in Germany to getting in at the Amsterdam Fashion Institute, moving, finding new friends etc.
Now I did a little fashion look-back with my favorite items of the year, including iconic pieces like the bulldog T-shirt from Givenchy (12), the Acne Platforms (2) or my recently acquired boots from the Asos White collection (16).
While in my opinion last year was all about the colors, this year was all about rich textures and mixing materials. Let’s start with smooth leather on Chloe Sevigny’s dress (1) for Opening Ceremony and the H&M peplum top (8), the peplum of course being a major trend this year. Very high up on my unrealistic wish list was the powdery velours biker jacket from Acne (6)  with the rose gold accents. Or what about glossy textures like the Juju Jellies (10) or patent leather as seen on H&M x Marni’s take on the Letterman jacket (3) or why not just a PVC crop top (15) that looks like it came from a sex shop? For a cuddly feeling, why not some velvet underwear (20) – for sure one of the most beautiful pieces of lingerie I’ve ever seen. And one of the coolest textures for me is the hairy – wether it’s sophisticated pony hair on a beautifully made Alexander Wang clutch (5) or the version of my childhood, a fuzzy polyester sweater (17).
But fuzzy sweaters are not the only thing from my childhood that made a comeback – crop tops and spaghetti straps solidified their place in fashion and I welcome them back with open arms.

New in.. Warrior Boots

Bring it on, winter, I’m ready for you! Got these babies for my birthday – four family members helped me finance them and now they’re here: My super heavy biker boots from Asos White

New in.. small obsession

I’ve been obsessing over this backpack since Weekday first opened on Rokin 84 and yesterday I decided to finally get it and I’m so thrilled about it. How cool is the holographic rainbow shine it has?

The Perfect Length

I have a little obsession with the midi length. It is perfect for winter and looks gorgeous with heels. I’m wearing: Crop top from Cheap Monday, my mother’s old knit skirt, and wedges I borrowed from my friend, who shares my love for this exquisite length and joined me in this photo wearing her H&M dress and her signature creepers.

New in..

I was so pleased to discover this perfect dress for fall/winter at Miss Selfridge. The length is so nice with boots and the cut out in the back will allow this dress to make the transition to spring – and it photographs really well. This is for sure in my top 3 purchases this year..

Long Time No See

But I haven’t forgotten about Røra.
Just wanted to give you guys an update.
I recently finished my first project at AMFI, the Inspiration Book. It was a ton of work! Here’s two of the collages I made for my book:
We now have a new assignment which includes me becoming an expert on nomads and their style.
Also, I now have internet in my home and will be able to do some more blogging in the future.
I’ll keep you posted. X

Hiatus

Dear readers,

You may have noticed that my posts have become less frequent. Due to the fact that I’m living in a wifi free house, blogging on a regular basis has become quite difficult.

However, the main reason for my lack of posts these last couple of weeks is that the reason I started Røra Blog in the first place has vanished. When I was still living in Cologne, I was in desperate need of a creative pass time activity, because I was not being challenged on a creative level in my studies.

Now that I’m in Amsterdam studying at the Fashion Institute, the need for a creative outlet is gone, since I’m already flooded with research work not only in the fashion field but also in photography, history and all things inspiring.

Blogging has been a great experience so far and when I’m more settled, I hope I’ll find my way back to it, but unfortunately right now Røra is not my number one priority.

Thanks for following, you’ll hear from me soon.

X

Weekday, Rokin 84

Last night I was lucky enough to be able to go to the opening of the new Weekday store in Amsterdam – very good looking store with 3 floors, located on Rokin 84. It was a lot more spectacular than the opening in Cologne, mostly because of one week of give aways, an awesome after party at Trouw and a goody bag filled with loads of lovely things:

Here are a couple of snapshots taken from Instagram (@Weekday_Amsterdam) just to give you an idea of the event..

Show me your belly

Since almost all of my belonging are now in boxes, I have decided to take the rest of the night off to browse and read (I’ve fallen under the spell of Fifty Shades of Grey as well).

While browsing I found this picture that deserved to be mentioned on my blog. If you have the body and coolness to pull this look off, then please. Hanne Gaby Odiele sure does – I’m loving her in this tom boyish look. From the color palette to the cut of her boyfriend jeans, she is spot on with this outfit.

Takes some courage, but combined with a slouchy silhouette, a mute color palette and a cool attitude, I think it looks awesome. Do it, if you have the stomach for it..

Another good example of flashing some abdomens, without looking trashy:

new in: spiky sweater

Yesterday, I was in Amsterdam to organize some things before the big move at the end of this week. But when I discovered a small boutique on the Herengracht and spotted this fierce studded sweatshirt, I couldn’t resist.
