let’s pretend we’re surfing

This season is highly influenced by sports wear. And what better sport to draw inspiration from for a summer wardrobe than surfing? We saw how Givenchy interpreted the surfer for their S/S ’12 collection – shark tooth necklaces, shark skin for leather, underwater colors, a cool attitude. All in all monochrome outfits which looked amazing. But I’m also loving all the fun tropical prints that are popping up here and there (ASOS for instance, they call it the Waikiki Trend) and using neoprene for skirts instead of wet suits is brilliant.
Who doesn’t admire surfers? They seem to have no care in the world, they’re adventurous and cool. Good if we city gals can at least look a bit more like them.
The picture was taken by Max Doyle and shows Catherine McNeil. You can find it in the April issue of Vogue Australia.

torn

Ripped jeans. They come and they go and right now, probably thanks to the advertising by Columbine wearing this season’s Acne ripped denim, they’re definitely back.

The thing is (and this is no new thought) – why would anybody spend money on torn jeans? I am very much into the distressed look and it is the easiest thing to do yourself. Or at least that’s what I had heard. So, I tried it.

This is what you will need: A denim garment of your choice, a pair of scissors and a paper clip or needle.

What you need to do is cut out parallel slits. The space in between the slits will determine the size of the torn section.
Using your clip you can start undoing the grid of the fabric by pulling the white horizontal threads.
Then, you will remove the darker vertical threads and ta-da!

It’s so easy I did the same thing to a pair of shorts..

Almost white

Beautiful and mysterious looking Daphne Groeneveld in pastels, whites and almost whites. Love to see the Givenchy shark tooth necklace in action. I applaude the styling on this editorial. The brights look sophisticated and she looks a little bit like a tough yet relaxed surfer lounging on that chair (like what Riccardo Tisci had in mind for the S/S 2012 collection of Givenchy), instead of looking sweet and dreamy, which is usually associated with soft hues.

not only for jocks

Last year we saw a lot of street style photos with girls in their track pants and pointy heels (my personal favorite: the devine Columbine, Elin Klings friend and coworker here – she can really pull off this look). Now we’re seeing very sporty pieces on the runway – especially Isabel Marant and Alexander Wang incorporated the athletic chic in their spring ’12 collections.

I’m all for comfortable, but you won’t see me wearing a track suit any time soon. I’m just not athletic. And clothes won’t make me work out more, or will they?

Here are some pieces that are sporty, chic and comfortable. Yes please!

longing for spring

One of my favorite spring collections was by Phillip Lim, I found the color palette to be absolutely gorgeous. The milkshake colors (many call them sorbet, which just isn’t the adequate term in my opinion) also appeared in several other collections, e.g. Acne, Louis Vuitton, Mulberry.

I love that lilac and mint are coming back and light blue goes with pretty much anything. Can’t wait to add a few soft hues to my closet.

If only I could have..

all Acne shoes in the world!

These are from the S/S 2012 collection. How amazing are the new Alice Silk pumps in different shades of blue? I could have them if I worked 45 hours.. I also really like the Audrey Silk pumps in fuchsia, but the other ones are sort of timeless. Shop them here.
