Haute Mess

This is the behind the scenes video of an editorial called “Haute Mess” for Vogue Italia (March 2012) featuring among others Abbey Lee Kershaw, Coco Rocha and some pretty outrageous styling. To me it looks like a post-apocalyptic setting. A deserted town in southern California where the models died and became fashion (and fast food?) addicted zombies. Mesmerizing.

torn

Ripped jeans. They come and they go and right now, probably thanks to the advertising by Columbine wearing this season’s Acne ripped denim, they’re definitely back.

The thing is (and this is no new thought) – why would anybody spend money on torn jeans? I am very much into the distressed look and it is the easiest thing to do yourself. Or at least that’s what I had heard. So, I tried it.

This is what you will need: A denim garment of your choice, a pair of scissors and a paper clip or needle.

What you need to do is cut out parallel slits. The space in between the slits will determine the size of the torn section.
Using your clip you can start undoing the grid of the fabric by pulling the white horizontal threads.
Then, you will remove the darker vertical threads and ta-da!

It’s so easy I did the same thing to a pair of shorts..

if only I could have

This is my wish list for this season. Not like it’s ever going to happen, but a girl can dream.

mood board: spring

We’re finally getting some love from the weather! This and the fact that my inspirations folder has gotten a lot fuller resulted in the need to share. The mood board is made from pictures I found on different tumblrs and blogs (fcknsweet, Jurgen Teller TumblrBecause I’m AddictedStudded Hearts) and it is influenced by the 90s, pastel colors and a little bit of danger, sex and “I don’t give a shit” I guess.

Oh, and can I just say how much I love pastel colored hair? I know, we’re seeing a lot of it online but not so much on the streets.. if I was blonde I’d do it in a heartbeat, but I’m not. So everyone who’s thinking about it please dye your hair and make my day!

today’s details

This is part of what I was wearing today. T-shirt with Aztec print from Motel, chunky knit cardigan from h&m, the belt was my moms but now it’s mine and the black jeans is from Lindex. Spring is finally here!!

diving with Elena Kalis

I love browsing through the many pages of the Ben Trovato blog, which focusses mainly on fashion photography. There is so much talent out there. Like Elena Kalis. She specializes in underwater photography and draws inspiration from Alice in Wonderland.
The contrasts and colors in her pictures are amazing. I have taken photos under water, but they looked flat and nothing like hers. Also, the composition is remarkable in spite of the fact that orientation under water, as well as posing and the positioning of props (like in the photo with the balls) are very difficult. I don’t know how she does it.

Read an interview with Elena Kalis on Ben Trovato and see more of her work here.

dip it!

Ever since I saw Phillip Lim at his spring/summer 2012 show in his dip dyed pants I’ve been intrigued by the look. It just gives an outfit a very interesting new dimension. And now dip-dyed pieces are popping up everywhere..

But then this is the perfect trend for people like me who are into arts and crafts. I have already dip dyed a tank top and I bought bleach (2,50€ at any drug store) yesterday to dip a pair of denim shorts into. There’s really no excuse, if you buy dip dyed garments you’re lazy.

piece of cake.

watch.. M.I.A. is the shit

My favorite music video right now and maybe of all time is M.I.A.’s latest video for her single “Bad Girls”. It’s mesmerizing, new, so so cool, inspiring and pretty unbelievable. I agree with Romain Gavras the director who says “Now, it will be hard to make something as grandiose as this. The next video needs to be shot on the moon.. on the moon with hookers.” – I hope they put that idea into action!

Watch in HD!

Plus, today I found a documentary about the making of this genius music video, you should definitely watch it..

look.. Love Aesthetics

I would like to introduce you to a genius blogger called Ivania Carpio from Utrecht. I mentioned her in a post before, since she regularly comes up with brilliant ideas for DIYs. Her personal style feels very now, 90s inspired with a futuristic edge, yet it is totally unique and always consistent with her personal aesthetic. I am a little obsessed with her lavender hair. Anyway, see for yourself, I think she’s pretty damn great: love-aesthetics.blogspot.com.

summer’s favorite shoes

Every year I have trouble finding sandals and I end up buying 3 pairs of 3€ espadrilles that I can throw away after one season instead of settling for sandals I’m not that much into. This year is different. Sandals are minimalistic, sportswear inspired, futuristic-looking and I adore them. Now the only issue is choosing..
