Beach day

It’s no secret that I’m an admirer of Elin Kling, the all-round talent from Sweden. She’s the creative director of the magazine Styleby and its latest editorial, in which we can see Martha Streck shot by Martin Lidell, speaks for itself. The stylist Nike Fröhling-Felldin did a great job in reflecting Elin’s simplistic, cool and feminine style. This editorial also shows that simplicity does not have to mean wearing black and/or white but just having a good set of basics, which is exactly what I would want on the beach besides a Bikini. Hopefully I’ll have the opportunity to get my hands on a copy of Styleby in the near future.

Sparkles

Yesterday night we celebrated the relatively new tradition of “Kölner Lichter” meaning Cologne Lights which consists of boats decorated with colorful lights parading down the Rhine and a firework show as the grand finale. We don’t celebrate anything in particular but then, people in Cologne don’t really need reasons to drink and have fun. So I attended a soirée and for the occasion I thought why not wear a sequin dress, in my opinion a very good choice when there’s fireworks and sparklers involved.

Bikini Time

Next week I can start packing for Portugal. I can’t tell you how excited I am, we’ve just had the worst summer here in Cologne and I can not wait to leave it behind and hit the beach. Here’s my beach equipment..

Happy Images

I have mixed feelings when it comes to Instagram. There is nothing artistic about snapshots taken with your iPhone, especially when a filter is applied to make it look like you took it with a polaroid camera using a film that expired in 2005 or adding a little blur to poorly imitate bokeh. However, if it’s not taken too seriously it can just be a fun way to illustrate your life and have a glimpse into what the life of others may look like. And even though at least 95% of the pictures on Instagram are cheesy and frankly not good, there are some that have an aesthetic appeal about them and others that can put a smile on my face. Like these for instance..Featured Instagram users, not necessarily in that order:
hendrikj, ohhaiitsme, kosh_dp, scottlane, wisut, moneal, punkhippie, hypoison, unique_lapin, whitneyreeder, lalovetta, theredhype, samwolfhaley, jcl_paris, misssewnso, helenailcorno, tristwin

Paisley Party

Another great item I bought during the summer sale are these trousers from Weekday. I’m so into that print and they are super comfortable. The best thing about them though is that they are extremely versatile. I’ll be able to wear them to the beach, for an everyday outfit, as lounge wear as well as wearing them out at night with heels – they go with everything. Hopefully I’ll be able to share a photo of me wearing them with my actual clothes. My collage is more like wishful thinking, since I don’t own an Alexander Wang nor a Reed Krakoff purse to accessorize my outfits with, but you get the idea that these trousers can totally make the transition from day to night.

New in: Heels

Yesterday I did something I only do once every two years. I bought high heeled shoes. I went to check out the sales at Zara and there they were, the chelsea boots I had already admired online: tan leather, timeless, the very last pair, on sale AND my size. The universe must have led me to them because that never happens (last pairs are always either a 37 or a 41, never a 39). Long story short, I couldn’t resist.
Now I just have to get myself to wear heels more often, I’m usually way to lazy for that but now I have a reason. Here it is:

Candice or nothing

Gorgeous Candice in this really cool, really chill and yet incredibly fashionable editorial for Muse magazine (summer 2012 issue). The styling is very creative and has an intriguing ambiguity about it: These are some very feminine looks yet all have a masculine twist. Also, the looks are very edgy and sexy but they have a man repelling quality about them.
This woman can’t not look sexy which is why I love her in this natural, more approachable look, as opposed to her all dolled up posing as a sex kitten (remember her in her short short denim shorts in Terry Richardson’s studio? Overkill.)
Here goes, Candice Swanepoel shot by Cass Bird and styled by Ethel Park. My hat is off to all of them.

#10

My favorite color for this summer is white, especially when it’s paired with a pale fluorescent yellow, it just doesn’t get much fresher than that. Since I don’t own a suit (yet! I want one so bad!) I just like combining all my blazers with matching pants or in this case shorts. Men’s wear is always a great inspiration especially when there’s a feminine twist, in this case super short cut-offs.
Blazer from H&M, top from Weekday, shorts from Monki and second hand belt.

White and Gold

So happy about finding this ring trio from Asos, I usually tend to under-accessorize because I like it simple and these rings look simple yet really cool especially I find when in an ensemble with a matching simple choker (H&M). The top I’m wearing is from Asos by the way.

Tropicalia

This picture from Planet Blue‘s lookbook inspired me to compile a list of my favorite tropical summer clothes. It takes a good sense of humor and courage to wear Hawaiian prints, one of the must ridiculed prints of all times, which makes it fun. Also, what screams summer any louder than palm trees and the color of the ocean?
